Course Introduction

A traineeship is an education and training programme that combines career-based learning with relevant work experience. The aim of the programme is to provide you with the skills and experience that employers are looking for.

This particular traineeship focuses on IT Systems Support. You’ll study part of the week with us on our Level 2 Diploma and functional skills (maths and English).The remainder of the week will be spent on work experience.

You need to be aged 19-24 and looking to further yourself in order to get a career job in IT. You will have an interest in technology and ICT and be highly motivated to progress your skills and knowledge.

Skills you will Acquire

After finishing the course, you'll be able to develop and demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and attributes:

  • Install & configure ICT systems - hardware and networks
  • Carry out fault finding and remedial maintenance on the systems
  • Perform preventive maintenance of ICT systems and peripherals
  • Design and install a computer network and understand data security
  • Customer Service skills needed to provide IT systems support services
  • You will also have developed your maths and english skills which employers value highly
What you will Study

You'll be required to complete the following units:

Customer Support Provision

This unit will introduce you to the basic techniques required to network computer systems, including all standards and protocols

Four technical competency units:

  • Unit 011 - Principles of ICT System and Data Security
  • Unit 229 - Install and Configure ICT Equipment and Operating Systems
  • Unit 231 - Testing ICT Systems
  • Unit 235 - Install, Configure and Test ICT networks

 You will also progress to qualifications in maths and English.

Entry Requirements
  • You must be aged 19-24
  • Proof of UK/European citizenship – id proof or Proof of 3 years of stay in UK (not on international student visa )
  • Proof of address
  • Previous qualifications details
  • Benefits beneficiary details (if any)
  • Details of any course being pursued elsewhere as of now
Fees & Funding

There is no fee associated with a traineeship
The work experience is not remunerated; however, employers may optionally pay travel and subsistence expenses

Progression Opportunities

The IT Systems Support course provides the underpinning knowledge and skills to enable you to extend your competency in further areas, at the same or a higher level:

  • Vendor Qualifications: CompTIA Fundamentals or CompTIA A+
  • Improve your skills by undertaking a higher-level qualification at Level 3
  • Level 2 Diploma in ICT Professional Competence
  • This qualification can also be used as part of an intermediate or advanced Apprenticeships in Digital IT
